As the summer sun casts its glow upon North Carolina, staying safe in the heat is essential for those wanting to spend their summers outside to avoid heat-related injuries. Keep reading for tips to stay safe this summer and to see how Wet ‘n Wild is committed to guest safety and comfort.
Tips for Staying Safe in the Summer Heat
- HYDRATE: Hydration plays a critical role in regulating body temperature and ensuring overall well-being, especially when facing excessive heat and prolonged sun exposure. The average person needs to consume 3/4 of a gallon of water daily, but individual needs may vary. Wet ‘n Wild is equipped to help you stay hydrated with our water refill stations located at every restroom and first aid. Guests can also bring in one sealed, unopened bottle of water or one empty water container. Consuming hydrating foods is another way to keep your body hydrated and increase your water intake. Wet ‘n Wild is proud to offer a selection of grab-and-go food options in our gift shop including fruits and smoothies, that are sure to keep you cool.
- Wear Sunscreen: Anytime you are outside during the summer it is important to protect your skin by applying sunscreen. Use sunscreen of at least 15 SPF and apply 30 minutes before sun exposure. Make sure to reapply according to the package instructions. If you forget your sunscreen, our gift shop has several different options to choose from so you can have all the fun without stress.
- Take Breaks in the Shade: Wet ‘n Wild has large umbrellas throughout the park that guests can enjoy and utilize to get a break from the sun. Additionally, guests are invited to reserve a private cabana for the day, which helps ensure you will have access to a cool, shaded area during your visit. Guests are also welcome to exit the park to take breaks in their car as needed and can re-enter by showing their ticket at the main gate.
- Wear Weather Appropriate Clothing: To stay cool during the summer heat it is advised to wear light, breathable clothing to best ensure you are staying comfortable and do not overheat. For visiting the Water Park, a fitted bathing suit, light cover-up, hat, and sunglasses are great options to ensure safety and have fun. At Wet ‘n Wild, our gift shop is also fully stocked with clothing items that are the perfect choice for keeping you cool this summer.
- Outside Resources: For additional information about staying cool this summer and heat-related illnesses, check out the American Red Cross and the CDC.
How Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe Helps You Beat the Heat
- Water Attractions: Staying wet by enjoying water attractions and pools is an excellent way to keep cool during the hot summer months. Wet ‘n Wild offers a variety of rides such as Riptide Racer, Bombs Away, Runaway Raft Ride, Daredevil Drop, and so many more! The park also has more relaxing options such as the Wave Pool, Shipwreck Cove, and the Lazee River, which all serve great cooling benefits when you need a more relaxing break from the sun.
- H2Go: Wet ‘n Wild’s H2Go pass helps cut down the wait time on select rides in the park. It serves as a VIP raft pick-up, allowing you to select the ride you want to ride and wait in a virtual queuing system instead of having to wait in the raft line yourself. You are alerted when it is time to pick up your raft, then you will join the ride line. The pass’ convenience will allow you to avoid standing in the sun for a longer period of time and gives you the opportunity to cool down in the shade, grab water, or a snack, while still reserving your spot in the raft line. You can access your H2Go reservation by using the app or by visiting the H2Go booth located near the entrance to pick up a wristband. Please note that a $50 deposit is required for the wristband, which will be refunded once returned.
- Guest Services: In the event that you get overheated or begin to have symptoms of a heat-related illness, Wet ‘n Wild has a first aid building with EMTs that are ready to help you. It is located next to Captain Eli’s and the Wave Pool, or you can flag down a staff member who will be ready to help with any health concerns or lead you to first aid.
